We all SHOULD KNOW that to realize this American dream, you have to get off your lazy butt and work hard. Work to get educated any way you can (it doesn't have to be in school, I have an engineering degree with some post-graduate work, and everything I learned in school is also in books at your local public library). There are many ways to educate yourself, but you have to WORK (HARD) FOR IT.

While you are being educated (a lifelong task) DO SOMETHING to help someone and make the world a better place.

We can disagree without being hostile. I believe we will never eliminate discrimination as long as government forms have a place to state your "race". It should not even be a consideration. Sure, it was abominable the way many colored people were brought to this country, but no one alive today experienced that. As a "white" American, I never profited from the oppression of any minorities, in fact I was once told by a major American corporation that although I was highly qualified for the job I was applying for, they were only hiring Blacks because of government mandates! THAT is discrimination, and so is race based "set-asides", "quotas", and whatever else you want to call it.

As Dr. Martin Luther King so eloquently put it, "people should be judged not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character", and this works BOTH WAYS. for blacks, whites, red and yellow, or whatever color you happen to be.

As an NRA life member, I know that our 2nd amendment rights are VERY IMPORTANT to the preservation of a free society, second ONLY to the 1st amendment right to free speech. It's not about duck hunting (duh), The founding fathers had just fought a war for independence against a "well regulated militia", the British Army. The language "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State" recognizes the necessity of the government maintaining a standing army. It's about checks and balances. Since the government cannot be reasonably disarmed, the offsetting balance is that "the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." It's about the people being armed so as to be able to resist an oppressive government, like the American revolutionaries resisted the King of England's repressive rule, and it most certainly applies to "assault rifles", maybe more than any other type of weapon.

Of course the founders believed they had created a new form of government where armed resistance would never be necessary, but they also recognized that they may have overlooked an opportunity for nefarious corrupt officials to take over the system. Hence, " the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." Of course they could never have envisioned nuclear weapons, and I think prohibition of private individuals "keeping and bearing" an H-Bomb is something we could all agree is a reasonable "infringement" on our 2nd amendment rights. I believe that a constitutional amendment is required to implement even this reasonable infringement.

God bless you all,
Don't worry, be Happy !Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6189841.post-78056315713782986792008-06-18T10:31:00.000-05:002008-06-18T10:31:00.000-05:00Hahaha! But, since dragons' population is so low now, there are few chances outside domestic help.

Another thing women can do to have their "guy" well handled is this: if you need something of your man, be specific and be calm. No "would you...", no "could you..." and no "It would be nice...". Be direct: "Please, I need you to do X". Sometimes women think that to be direct is to be rude. For us to be indirect is disgusting. If you express your needs with calm, without emotions, the message will be received strong and clear. And you can be as direct as possible without being perceived as rude.

Be flexible. If you don't need it right now, give him a window of time.

And after that... the prize! An earnest "thank you" will be ear as a "My hero!" and your man will be eager to make things for you.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6189841.post-1159372433046078182006-09-27T10:53:00.000-05:002006-09-27T10:53:00.000-05:00Thanks for the visit, DJ. There are several reasons for this opinion, but foremost in my mind is the undisputed fact that most people just don't seem to care. I refer to these people as "Sheeple" because they think and act as herd animals for the most part. Certainly there are not enough dissenters to foment organized insurrection, or civil war. I'm not sure what could start that kind of backlash short of a wholesale repeal of certain rights, and even then I don't think it would amount to an active, possibly violent backlash unless the repeal of those rights were rigorously enforced in a Hitler-esque manner.

Unfortunately, I have found that for the most part, the American people will trade a great deal of their liberties for the appearance of safety. 99.99999% of the efforts we go through in this country to keep the populace safe are window dressing that allow soccer moms to feel like their children aren't going to get killed sitting in their minivans. Keep in mind, I am a father, and I understand the desire for the safety of your child, but it's about time that we, collectively accepted the fact that just living like we do, in this country, is essentially unsafe. I just deal with it. I take reasonable precautions with my child to ensure as best as I am able that he's safe. I have no expectation the my government is going to take care of it for me, unlike a majority of Americans.

It seems that the only thing you have to do in order to seize control in this country is blabber on about how "everyone will be safer with [your] plan" and that we will "have to make sacrifices", and then it's game on! Pathetic, IMHO. Just plain pathetic. I hate to do this because it sounds to trite to me, but I'll do it anyway because I still think it can't be said often enough these days: "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." - Ben Franklin

Another couple from good old Ben, worthy of repeating here is, "Make yourselves sheep and the wolves will eat you." and "A nation of well informed men who have been taught to know and prize the rights which God has given them cannot be enslaved. It is in the region of ignorance that tyranny begins"

Outside Independence Hall when the Constitutional Convention of 1787 ended, Mrs. Powel of Philadelphia asked Benjamin Franklin, "Well, Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?" With no hesitation whatsoever, Franklin responded, "A republic, if you can keep it."

I'd like to keep it.Erniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15685494236831422630noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6189841.post-1120705832334942952005-07-06T22:10:00.000-05:002005-07-06T22:10:00.000-05:00A friend of a friend was saying that the US will s...A friend of a friend was saying that the US will see civil war within 50 years due to SC opinions such as these.
